Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the former Dutch parliamentarian who has lived in exile since 2006, has returned home after Holland's government stopped paying for her security. The Times of London writes that Hirsi Ali, a Somali refugee known for criticizing Islam, has been under round-the-clock protection since the 2004 murder of the director of a film on which she collaborated.

Hirsi Ali was raised as a Muslim but renounced the religion in 2002 and has become one of its fiercest critics. She lost her Dutch citizenship—and seat in parliament—after revelations that she had lied on her asylum application, a scandal that brought down the government. Hirsi Ali, who has received death threats from Muslim fanatics, had been living in the US. (More Islam stories.)
