A bill that would require women to have an ultrasound scan less than an hour before having an abortion is among 5 tough new anti-abortion measures passed by Oklahoma's GOP-dominated Senate this week. The bill, which will hit the governor's desk later this week, also requires a doctor to describe the results of the scan to the patient. Opponents have vowed to contest the measure, the Guardian reports.

"The legislature and the Senate are acting like an amateur gynecologist," Democratic State Sen. Jim Wilson told the Tulsa World. "This is not about abortion. This is about the Bible." Another State Senate-approved measure requires doctor and patient to respond on a form to 38 questions about the woman, including ones on race and marital status. The results would be posted online for statistical purposes. Kansas recently passed new laws also making it far more difficult for women to obtain abortions.
