Italian prosecutors have filed an appeal seeking to boost American student Amanda Knox's murder sentence to life in prison. Knox, convicted late last year of brutally killing roommate Meredith Kercher, is already serving 26 years. Her family tells ABC News they're "quite disappointed" by the action. They plan to appeal her conviction. Prosecutors are arguing for a sentence boost due to "aggravated circumstances" that the murder had no motive and that Kercher was killed in a drug- and sex-fueled craze.

Lawyers from the victim's family said they "fully stand by" the appeal, notes the Daily Mail. "We have to remember poor Meredith in this tragic episode," said one Italian prosecutor. "This was a particularly brutal and horrendous crime and we are calling for the punishment to fit that crime."
