An American professor believes it's high time universities seriously study UFO sightings. "Millions" of sightings are reported each year, noted anthropology professor Philip Hasely. "It’s about time we looked into this as a worthy area of study," he tells the Buffalo News. "It's important that the whole subject be brought out in the open and investigated." Hasely, who teaches at Niagara Falls state college, heads the Western New York Mutual UFO Network, which investigate UFO sightings.

He's aware that many may scoff at such a "nonsense study." But "we'll refer you to voluminous literature and facts about UFOs," he said. The belief that alien intelligent life may exist has high-powered backers. The astrophysicist director of the Hayden Planetarium in Manhattan said researchers have failed to make contact with ET life despite years of effort, but points out that humans have barely scratched the surface. He compared the effort to people scooping up hundreds of glasses of water from all the world's oceans and concluding that no fish exist.
