You don't have your iPad yet, but the App Store is already open and promising wonders—pricey wonders. Gizmodo takes a look at the applications you won't want to go without:
- Netflix: The streaming video player is free, but you need to shell out a monthly fee.
- Marvel: "The iPad is like something out of a sci-fi movie. Or a comic book. Also, it is a comic book. Excelsior! Free reader, paid comics."
- MLB: The $15 app lets you watch live baseball, and "for games you can't watch for licensing/blackout reasons, it'll basically simulate them."
- SoundHound: Identifies music coming in through the iPad's microphone with a "seriously fast recognition engine."
- Scrabble: "One of the apps early reviewers really flipped out about."
- Newspapers: The New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal all "released free apps on day one"—actually, day minus-2.
- AIM: "AOL's instant messaging app looks pretty great, especially for the price. Free."
- Craigsphone: Interestingly, "Craiglist, the website, looks like shit. Craigslist, the iPad app, looks kind of great!"
