Over the past 10 years, America’s median bra size has gone from 36C to 36DD—and the full-figured bra business is booming. Sales increased by 7.4% between 2008 and 2009, and those in the plus-size bra market have one person in particular to thank for the increased awareness: Oprah. She "is the champion of bra fitting and full-figure bras,” one exec tells Women’s Wear Daily.

Even so, the variety of bras available in sizes ranging from DD to K leaves something to be desired. “I wish there were more. We are not getting enough new product,” says one store owner. And it would be helpful if the industry could settle on one name for such sizes: Full-figure, full-busted, full-fitted, plus-size, and the simple DD plus are all currently in use, New York notes.
