A jury yesterday acquitted real estate tycoon Glenn Knowles of insurance fraud, accepting his story that he’d become so drunk that he forgot where he parked his Lamborghini. When he wasn’t able to find it after an extensive search, he and co-owner Richard Mont reported it stolen, and filed an insurance claim, according to the Daily Telegraph. The insurance company accused them of trying to con them, but the jury accepted the drunkenness defense.
Number plate recognition systems showed the car headed towards Gillingham, Kent. Knowles is pretty sure he took the car there to begin his night, and says he may have then driven it drunk to Rochester, where he continued drinking. But he’s pretty sure he didn’t take it to Maidstone, his final destination. He took a taxi home. It’s not the first time he’s drunkenly misplaced a car; he once lost a Mercedes in a drunken haze, too, though he eventually found that one.
