A Muslim-American group is planning a public awareness campaign against a series of children's textbooks it says paints an inaccurate and inflammatory picture of their faith. The civil rights director of a chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations says the World of Islam series—found in at least two dozen states—has an overwhelmingly anti-Islamic tone, the AP reports.

One of the many examples the group points to is the statement "some Muslims began immigrating to the United States in order to transform American society, sometimes through the use of terrorism" in the book Muslims in America. Elsewhere, a picture of two smiling Muslim girls in head scarves appears on a page subtitled "Security Threats." The publisher of the 10-book series, which is aimed at children aged 10 and younger, declined to comment.
