Howard Stern didn’t do anything wrong when he called Gabourey Sidibe “planet-sized” the other day: In fact, he did something noble. The radio host defended his comments on yesterday’s show, explaining that “obesity in this country is out of control” and he’s simply concerned for the Precious actress’s health. “I might be an asshole, but I’m pointing out the obvious,” he said. “She’s probably going to be dead very soon if she keeps eating this way.”

In fact, Stern drew a parallel to cohort Artie Lange’s recent suicide attempt: “I kinda don’t see a difference between what Artie did, Artie tried to kill himself, and I feel this girl, in a slower way, but yet nevertheless the same outcome will be: She’s going to kill herself. You can’t eat like this,” he said, adding that the general public is “going overboard in rooting for her because she’s this big fat woman,” and he’s not even sure she’s that great of an actress. In Precious, he said, “she was more of a prop.”
