Kidnapped Murder Suspect Will Stand Trial

A French court ruled last week that murder suspect Dieter Krombach, 74, must stand trial, despite the fact he was abducted from Germany, bound and gagged, and driven to France against his will. The kidnapping was arranged by the victim's father, André Bamberski, 72, who says he was driven to abduction after 27 years of fighting to see Krombach charged for the murder of his 14-year-old daughter, Kalinka, in 1982.

The case has stirred anger in Germany, where officials claim France is acting in violation of international law. Krombach, who has been held in a high-security prison since his abduction, was cleared by German authorities. After 27 years of pursuing his daughter's alleged killer, Bamberski shrugs off the criticism: “I don’t regret it," he says, "even if I am sentenced to prison,” he tells the Times Online.
