Apple has filed a lawsuit against HTC, one of its biggest competitors in the smartphone market, saying it infringed on 20 iPhone-related patents. “We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it,” Steve Jobs said in a statement. “Competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”
Apple’s press release doesn’t detail which patents it’s accusing HTC of stepping on, other than that they relate to the phone’s "user interface, underlying architecture and hardware.” HTC makes some of the most prominent Android devices, including the Google Nexus. TechCrunch sees the suit as a “shot across Android’s bow and a warning to all Android manufacturers.” (More iPhone stories.)
