President Bush predicts that Hillary Clinton will beat her Democratic rivals for the nomination but will fall to a Republican in a “tough” general election. Breaking a longstanding promise not to be the “prognosticator in chief,” he says her name and fundraising will hold sway in the primaries, the AP reports, quoting a new book out today.

The White House tacitly acknowledged that Bush was interviewed for the book, The Evangelical President. "It's difficult to not talk about the '08 election," said press secretary Dana Perino. For his part, Dick Cheney’s more cautious about the race to succeed Bush, saying the election could “go either way.”   (More Hillary Clinton stories.)
