A set of never-before-seen love letters between John F. Kennedy and his secret Swedish mistress have surfaced and are for sale in an online auction. The letters, written in Kennedy’s own scrawling handwriting, reveal a passionate affair that began before Kennedy was married, and continued after it, according to ABC News. The starting price for the 11-letter set is $25,000, though the auction site, LegendaryAuctions.com, suspects it’ll ultimately fetch six digits.
Kennedy met the woman, Gunilla von Post, while vacationing in the French Riviera in 1953, and for years afterward they exchanged love letters.. The summer after Kennedy’s marriage he wrote to her, “I might get a boat and sail around the Mediterranean—with you as crew.” Eventually, the two did enjoy a romantic get-away. “I borrowed him for a week,” von Post, who revealed the affair in her 1997 book, once said, “a beautiful week that no one can take away.” (More John F.
