(was Hitler sick?) is an exhaustive examination of Hitler's medical history and all 82 drugs he took while he ruled Germany. It debunks several myths arising from the search for a medical or biological explanation for Hitler's madness, reports Der Spiegel.
Hitler was not likely a habitual user of "Hitler speed" Pervitin, as rumored, though it was consumed in large quantities by front-line soldiers, according to the book. Nor did he have schizophrenia or syphilis, which was also rumored, but he did have hepatitis, chronic stomach cramps, which convinced him to become a vegetarian, and Parkinson's disease, the authors conclude. "At no time did Hitler suffer from pathological delusions," the book states. "He was fully responsible" for his actions.
