Israeli jets fired on tunnels along Gaza's border with Egypt yesterday, the day after two explosive-laden barrels washed up on Israeli beaches. Israeli authorities have closed a a 25-mile stretch of coastline north of Gaza indefinitely while they search for more barrel bombs. "We are not taking any chances," a police spokesman tells the Wall Street Journal.
Two other barrels exploded near an Israeli Navy ship on the weekend. Three militant groups in Gaza have claimed responsibility for the barrels, each of which held around 22 pounds of explosives, and say more are at sea . Israeli forces believe they were dropped from fishing boats. They have told the public to be alert for suspicious objects and warned that sea-borne terror attacks are likely to increase in future.
