Huffington Post editors were thrilled to find blogger Stefan de Rothschild, a wealthy heir whose $2.5 million donation to Haiti made national news. The only problem? None of it was true. Stefan "Monty" Roberts of Britain was unmasked by a group of flinty-eyed Wikipedia editors who noticed his Wiki entries always circled back to Internet sources he had apparently created.
Roberts repeatedly posted fake entries in Wikipedia—for himself, for his fake line of Rothschilds, and for a fake company, Rothschild Estates, which made the ersatz Haiti "donation," reports Gawker. Roberts' columns were removed from the Huffington Post site yesterday after it "came to our attention that this blogger misrepresented himself and was blogging under a false identity, part of an elaborate hoax," said a statement.
