Kiefer Sutherland Loses $869K in Cow Scam

Kiefer Sutherland is the latest celebrity victim of a Ponzi scheme, losing $869,000 to a scam involving…cows? Yes, cows. The 24 star fronted Michael Wayne Carr the money to buy cattle in Mexico then sell them at a profit in the US—but the suspected con man never bought said cows, and is accused of selling cows that weren’t his, TMZ reports.

Carr’s scheme goes all the way back to 2006, when he apparently roped Sutherland in: The actor gave Carr $550,000 for the same deal—and Sutherland made a $130,000 profit. But he says he hasn't seen a penny of the $869,000 he fronted Carr a few months later. The two have apparently never met, and Sutherland’s financial team vetted and approved the deal. Carr, who admitted to doctoring the paperwork, is charged with 12 felonies.
