The death of Bob Woolmer, the English-born Pakistani cricket coach, was ruled a murder yesterday, roiling the sedate world of international cricket with a crime investigators call “extraordinary and evil.” When Woolmer was found dead in his hotel room in Kingston, Jamaica last Sunday, it was thought he died from a heart attack, but an autopsy confirms he was strangled.
Woolmer, 59, was killed soon after Pakistan, a cricket superpower, was unexpectedly defeated by a team of Irish part timers. There is speculation the murder is connected to a match-fixing attempt or a betting syndicate. Officials say the World Cup, one of Cricket's premier international tournaments, will continue.
