Blogosphere Erupts Over 'Big Girl' Comment

Another New York Times writer is in the hot seat over disparaging comments about Golden Globes attendees. Fashion critic Cathy Horyn, when criticizing Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks’ ruffly gown, quoted an anonymous stylist as saying, “You don’t put a big girl in a big dress.” Christina Hendricks, big? Cue outrage—which became even more passionate when the paper acknowledged inadvertently doctoring its photo in processing, making Hendricks look portlier, CNN reports.

Horyn joins colleague Andy Port, who irked critics by speculating three particular actresses had gained some weight, as well as a Times blogger who slammed Michael C. Hall's hat before realizing he had cancer. One style expert defended Horyn, insisting, "That's a stylist's brain talking about how a garment could look the best. The person wearing it is there to convey the dress in the best light."
