Burma's detained opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, today met with three political allies to discuss the future of her political party, the National League for Democracy. It was the first time since June 2008 that the Nobel Peace Prize laureate was allowed to meet with the NLD's ailing leaders. Suu Kyi has been imprisoned for 14 of the last 20 years.
One of the leaders present at the meet told reporters Suu Kyi hopes to reorganize the party's central executive committee. He told the Guardian they agree with her proposal and would continue to "to support and stand for the party."
