Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are grabbing all the headlines or their copious Grammy nods, but down the ballot are some truly weird nominees. Johnny Depp, for example, could soon become a Grammy winner for writing the album notes for Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. Or how about a Best Rap/Sung Collaboration nomination for Saturday Night Live’s goofy “I’m on a Boat” short with T-Pain?

Even Spinal Tap finally got a Best Comedy Album nomination for its new Back From the Dead disc. And the Best Spoken Word Album category is a hoot, pitting Michael Madsen against "Teen Wolf and Princess Leia," Rolling Stone reports. Other subplots to watch: Hall & Oates are up for their first Grammy ever, and Bruce Springsteen has a chance to earn payback for his Oscar snub with the title song from The Wrestler.
