Knox's Lawyer Bawls in Court

Amanda Knox’s lawyer brought out the waterworks in the final day of summations in her murder trial today, reports ABC News, offering a tearful plea for her freedom. Luciano Ghirga decried the Knox’s abusive interrogation and called the prosecution’s evidence faulty. “Amanda was a victim of a mechanism that crushed her,” he said. “Amanda asks you for her life. Give Amanda her life back.”

The speech also brought Knox’s mother and father to tears, along with her younger sister Deanna, 20, who'd just arrived from Seattle. Amanda simply smiled at them as she was led out of court. Defendants are allowed the last word in Italian trials, so Knox may speak in the trial’s closing minutes tomorrow. (More Amanda Knox stories.)
