Economic woes didn’t prevent shoppers from camping out outside stores across the country this morning, as retailers offered especially deep Black Friday discounts. Most opened early as well, with some, including Wal-Mart and many Old Navy stores, opening yesterday to get a jump on things. Toys R Us opened most of its stores at midnight.
One Best Buy manager told the AP that customers were putting more discretionary goods in their carts than last year. “A year ago, they were focused on what they needed.” But some customers say they're still feeling the pinch. "I've definitely cut down," said one woman. "You have to cut down, because you have to eat." (More Black Friday stories.)
