After being booted from a scheduled Good Morning America appearance because of his American Music Awards antics, Adam Lambert was snatched up by CBS’ Early Show, where he contended the controversy was motivated by his sexuality: “If it had been a female pop performer doing the moves that were on the stage, I don't think there'd be nearly as much of an outrage.” Then CBS made his point for him, blurring a shot of him kissing a man.
For comparison, CBS showed the Britney Spears-Madonna kiss on the 2003 MTV VMAs, unedited. That just “reinforces an unfortunate double standard that is applied to openly gay performers,” GLAAD tells Reuters. But CBS countered that the Lambert incident, "for all we know, may still lead to legal consequences"—which, given that the case of Janet Jackson's Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction" remains unresolved nearly 6 years later, certainly seems a plausible argument.
