Glenn Beck came out on the losing end today in his attempt to shut down a satirical website the Fox News host alleged was defamatory and infringed on his trademark. And though an arbitrator ruled that “even a ‘moron in a hurry’ would not likely conclude that Complainant sponsored, endorsed, or was affiliated with the website addressed by the disputed domain name,” the owner of glennbeckrapedandmurderedayounggirlin1990.com handed him the keys anyway.
Isaac Eiland-Hall was “strongly protected” under the First Amendment, the arbitrator noted. In relinquishing the domain, Eiland-Hall took several shots at Beck, concluding, “rather than choosing to strive for excellence and civic contribution, you simply pander to the fears and insecurities of your audience. And in the process, you do them, and us all, a great deal of harm. Shame on you, Mr. Beck.” The site has since been shut down.
