A US Army hospital spokesman says Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, suspected in the deadly shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, is conscious and able to talk. The spokesman says Hasan remains in stable condition, and has been up and verbal since Saturday, when he came off a ventilator.
Hasan was hospitalized after a civilian police officer shot him to end the Thursday rampage that left 13 dead and 29 wounded. The 39-year-old is at Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio, about 150 miles southwest of Fort Hood. (More Nidal Malik Hasan stories.)
