PETA Drove Me to Kill My Cat

Buried on the last page of an article about the shiny, happy PETA interns (or, as one passerby called them, “those crazy PETA people”), the Washington Post relates a story of how they contributed to one cat’s untimely demise. Lydia Netzer, who lives next door to the Norfolk interns, says she put Hoity down, after months of lectures from her neighbors about letting him outside, out of fear PETA would take him.

“Every time a new intern moved in, they would come over and say they needed to talk to me about the dangers of cats living outside. I would have this parade of pierced, tattooed vegans at my door,” says Netzer, who claims Hoity basically went insane when she tried keeping him indoors. “In a way it's like, 'Oh, they're so cute. They're all 20 years old and super-faithful true believers.'”
