UK Yacht Couple 'OK' With Somali Pirates

A British couple taken from their yacht by Somali pirates say they’re in good condition and are being held aboard a hijacked container ship. “We are well and being looked after OK,” Paul Chandler, 59, told the BBC by phone today; he also spoke to British channel ITN, saying the pirates had come aboard early last Friday morning as he and wife Rachel, 55, slept.

“Food is OK at the moment,” Paul Chandler noted, adding that there’s been no ransom demand that he’s aware of. Witnesses told the BBC the Chandlers were removed from the Singapore-flagged Kota Wajah after today’s call, and came ashore with some 30 pirates at the village of Ceel Huur. A British patrol found the Chandlers’ empty yacht earlier today.
