It turns out Sidekick users will get “most if not all” of their data back, Microsoft announced today. The company now believes that only a minority of users were affected by the blackout. Until now, the company had painted a much bleaker picture, saying Saturday that though it would try to restore the data, “the likelihood of a successful outcome is extremely low." Sabotage was not to blame, notes TechCrunch.

“The outage was caused by data loss in the core database and the back-up," said a Microsoft statement. "We rebuilt the system component by component, recovering data along the way. This careful process has taken a significant amount of time, but was necessary to preserve the integrity of the data.” (More Sidekick stories.)
