An Indian baby who spent his first moments out of the womb tumbling from an express train has survived unharmed. Mother Rinku Debi Ray felt discomfort during a train journey and went to the bathroom, only to unexpectedly give birth. "The baby came out, chord, placenta and all," and tumbled through the toilet chute onto the train tracks, she said. She immediately leaped from the train, causing a passenger who thought she was committing suicide to pull the emergency brake cord.

She was found sitting beside the tracks a mile away from the stopped train cradling the baby, the Independent reports. The mother had only a few scratches, amazed doctors said, and the newborn had no injuries at all. "I still cannot believe it," her husband said "When I realized Rinku had jumped out of the train, I gave up all hope of seeing her alive. I can only thank God for keeping my family intact—with a bonus." (More India stories.)
