Add Saturday Night Live to the ranks of those making sport of David Letterman's difficulties. But in the hands of SNL, Dave got off pretty easy. "Weekend Update" anchor Seth Meyers dubbed the extortion attempt "a stupid human trick," adding that the would-be blackmailer was threatening to reveal embarrassing details of Letterman's personal life: After sex, Dave would say, "Stay tuned for Craig Ferguson." Elsewhere in the Letterman frenzy:

  • Letterman's off-limits office in the Ed Sullivan Theater contains a love nest—or at least a fold-out couch and a kitchenette, reports the New York Daily News. Letterman insiders say the workaholic comedian simply uses the space to crash occasionally.
  • A '90s intern tells TMZ she had a yearlong fling with Letterman that began when he asked her to the movies. "I was madly in love with him at the time," says Holly Hester. "I would have married him. He was hilarious." She says the comic broke it off, citing their age difference.
  • Women excelled at the Late Show, continues the New York Post, noting that the late-night host surrounded himself with attractive young women who were often promoted quickly.
