Mitt Romney let bygones be bygones when he campaigned for John McCain last year, forgetting an acrimonious relationship with his erstwhile rival for the GOP presidential nomination. Now, McCain appears to be repaying the favor and ginning up support for the former Massachusetts governor’s 2012 bid, reports the Boston Globe. “Every time our campaign asked him to go someplace or do something, he was always ready and willing,” McCain says.

McCain hasn’t actually endorsed Romney, but he lent his name to an Arizona fundraiser, suggesting that Romney's stock is rising. “He has more respect and appreciation within the party because he has a very strong financial background,” the senator says. McCain adds that he would be glad to host any and all Republican contenders. “It’s certainly not a preference for the nominee 3 1/2 or 4 years from now.”
