Megan Fox, SNL Premiere Not Too Funny

Most critics are still wondering why Megan Fox was chosen to host Saturday Night Live's 35th-season premiere, but they do understand the general fascination with her appearance. She helped out during her monologue, showing off nude shots of herself...as a centaur. A sampling of reactions:

  • After showing off a decent Southern accent in a flight-attendant sketch in the "rocky" premiere, "in playing a beautiful Russian bride, a cynical chat-line spokesmodel, and a curvy stooge, Fox was fine, but she didn’t really stretch her comedy muscles," writes Ken Tucker for Entertainment Weekly.

  • Last night was the "worst season opener" Linda Holmes can remember, and "if Megan Fox has any flair for comedy, no one discovered it," she writes for NPR. The producers often bury bad hosts, but she kept popping up, and "nothing worked—especially not her baffling monologue, in which she came on stage, played dumb, and shuffled back off."
  • Fox "wasn't terrible," writes Megan Masters for E!, but more impressive were the two new cast members who "rocked it," save one well-publicized misstep. Newbie Jenny Slate said "f---in'" during a sketch—only the fourth f-bomb in SNL history—but "her face was priceless."
