Lawsuits Settled for $13M in RI Club Fire

Relatives of those killed in the 2003 Rhode Island nightclub fire have tentatively agreed to a $13.5 million settlement with several of the defendants sued over the blaze. A hundred people died and 200 others were injured. The companies involved in the settlement include the manufacturer of the foam that spread the fire, the company that leased the building, and an alarm company.

Companies still in the suit that have not settled include Clear Channel Broadcasting, Anheuser-Busch and Home Depot, although attorneys for the plaintiffs say they hope other deals will be forthcoming. The settlement still depends on approval by a judge, and the appointment of a "special master" to oversee distribution of the funds. (More Station nightclub stories.)
