Fans of winning baseball franchises pay for their bragging rights with more expensive beer, the Wall Street Journal reports. On average, a team that wins 6 out of 10 games charges $1.30 more for a 16-ounce beer than a club with a .400 winning percentage. There are, of course, exceptions, allowing for some great deals and some unconscionable gouging.
While watching the 2008 World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies at home, a 21-ounce draft will cost you $6.75—not outrageous, especially when you consider the dismal Washington Nationals charge $7.50 for 20 ounces. For a better value from a put-upon team, head to Pittsburgh, where beer goes for 32% less than the Journal’s metric predicts. And stay away from Boston—the Red Sox may be resurgent, but $7.25 for 12 ounces seems regressive. (More beer stories.)
