LeGarrette Blount says he’s sorry for punching out a rival player on live TV and will accept any punishment, the Idaho Statesman reports. “I just apologize to everyone that was watching this,” the senior tailback said. “I lost my head.” Blount’s Oregon team had just been upset by Boise State when Boise’s Byron Hout tapped Blount on the shoulder pad and apparently said something to taunt him.
Blount responded by punching Hout in the face, then had to be restrained by his teammates before he could rush the jeering Boise crowd. Police say there hasn’t been a criminal complaint against Blount, and there are no plans to arrest him. “The chief said these matters are handled by coaches, athletic directors, and the NCAA,” a police spokesman said.
