Sarah Palin will not appear tonight at an Alaska fundraising event to promote a ballot measure requiring minors to consult their parents before having an abortion, the Anchorage Daily News reports. Organizers have promoted the appearance for weeks, and robocalls asked listeners to meet with her at “an event to protect young girls facing abortion decisions.” Her people say they made no commitment.
Palin was to be the first to sign a petition for the new measure, though her spokesman says the plan was never set. “She had hoped to be able to attend but cannot return.” The hopeful group is miffed but unbowed. “All we can do is take people at their word that we've worked with in the past,” says the president of the Alaska Family Council. “It would be a grave disappointment if she doesn't show up but the show will still go on.” (More Sarah Palin stories.)
