Apple's Snow Leopard arrives in stores tomorrow, and advance reviews find it a sleeker beast than the typical upgrade. Rather than decking out OS X Leopard with new features, Apple has shrunk and sped up the program. David Pogue in the New York Times greets the upgrade as a long-overdue end to bloatware, and hopes the rest of the industry will take a hint.
Snow Leopard's stealth—few visible new features, no big touting by Apple—intrigues Walter Mossberg in the Wall Street Journal, but he's less impressed than Pogue, judging the $29 upgrade only "nice-to-have" rather than "must-have." Both writers note plenty of bugs and glitches, which Pogue hopes will be tamed once programs like Word and Photoshop are updated.
