Nobody's Sold on The Goods

On paper, The Goods ought to be—well, good, given that it has plenty of funny people on both sides of the camera. Didn’t turn out that way. Here’s what critics are saying:

• Seemingly pulled “straight out of Will Ferrell's discard pile,” the flick is a “mean-spirited nightmare of throwaway gags,” writes Adam Keleman of Slant Magazine.

• Star Jeremy Piven is tragically limited, writes Wesley Morris of the Boston Globe. There’s not much to him besides “the mysteries of his hair. You want to touch it just to see if an alarm goes off.”
• Rene Rodriguez of the Miami Herald bemoans the “sheer ineptitude” of director Neal Brennan. The movie looks “as if it were shot through a dirty sock” and is rarely even funny. It “just sits there, a lumpen load of dullness.”
