Charlie Weis has told his QBs who'll suit up for Notre Dame's season opener against Georgia Tech. The coach says the choice is obvious, the Chicago Sun-Times reports, but he's aiming to retain the element of surprise by not releasing the name—except to the players."They've known for weeks," said the otherwise mum Weis.

The candidates—Demetrius Jones, Evan Sharpley, and Jimmy Clausen—may have anticipated the decision, but it's not clear whether Weis opted for Jones' running ability or Sharpley's experience. Freshman Clausen, nursing a cranky elbow, is an unlikely choice. Meanwhile, sophomore Darrin Walls has usurped senior Ambrose Wooden at the right cornerback slot. (More Charlie Weis stories.)
