Consumer advocates have been pecking at Wal-Mart for exporting jobs overseas, but yesterday an overseas import returned the favor. A three-year-old emu named Myron wound up in the big-box store’s parking lot after being chased from a local farm by a coyote, the AP reports. The owner said he wasn’t surprised when police phoned around 6 a.m. and told him about his missing Australian bird.

“They can run 40 miles an hour, so that was just a quick sprint for Myron,” he said. Employees used shopping carts to create a makeshift cage, while a store manager fed Myron grapes and apples to calm him. Emus can’t fly, but as birds go they can grow Wal-Mart sized: as tall as six feet and as heavy as 100 pounds. (More emu stories.)
