In audio from the arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr, released today by Cambridge police, the arresting officer tells the dispatcher to “keep the cars coming” as he faces an “uncooperative” suspect, the Boston Herald reports. An earlier tape reveals the 911 call in the case, in which a Harvard magazine employee says another woman “had noticed two gentlemen” who “kind of had to barge in.” She notes, "They have suitcases."
Lucia Whalen adds that she’s “not sure if these are two individuals who actually live there.” Responding to the dispatcher’s question over whether the men are “white, black, or Hispanic,” Whalen says “One looked kinda Hispanic, but I'm not really sure,” WBZ reports. She notes that she saw them “from a distance.” The police commissioner said today at a press conference that the “tapes will speak for themselves.”
