Uninhibited Key West may loosen up even more if naturists gets their way, reports the Miami Herald. A city commissioner plans to introduce a referendum in October to amend an ordinance barring public nudity—much to the delight of nude sunbathing advocates who want a small strip of rarely used beach designated clothing optional.
While Key West is famed as a flip-flop-friendly town prone to body-paint parades and topless rooftop bars, the city hasn't allowed nude sunbathing since 1983. A county official says visiting foreigners wonder why Americans are "such prudes" at the beach, and city planners hope a nude beach will bring in more tourist dollars.
