The Tigers paid a price for their dramatic 5-4 win over the Yankees yesterday. Curtis Granderson's in-the-park homer earned Detroit the win, but ace starter Jair Jurrjens—a key weapon in the Tigers' battle for the American League Central—went out early with an injury to his throwing shoulder and was lost to the 15-day disabled list.

Though homers from Jason Giambi and Robinson Cano put New York within striking distance, the Yanks were unable to assemble a rally, and blasts from Marcus Thames and Carlos Guillen sealed the win for Detroit. Meanwhile, manager Jim Leyland has called up righty Zach Miner to replace the downed Jurrjens. (More Detroit Tigers stories.)
