Sarah Palin may not spend much of her newfound free time campaigning: Many GOP lawmakers facing tough 2010 contests don't want to be associated with the soon-to-be-ex-governor, who they fear will galvanize liberals, the Hill reports. One anonymous Republican said that if Palin came to his district, his opponent would “probably be doing a dance of joy.”
Indeed, the head of the House Democrats' campaign arm said he hopes Palin sticks around. Many Republicans were on the fence, aware that Palin can be a big money draw. “I need a better understanding of why she quit,” said one. Chuck Grassley, on the other hand, said he'd still welcome her: “The answer is, if she can raise a lot of money for me, yes.”
