A massive truck bomb near Kabul killed 25 people today, including 13 primary school students, and sent pieces of the vehicle flying more than a mile from the blast, reports the AP. The truck overturned in the road last night, and when police arrived this morning to clear the way the bomb detonated. Another two schoolchildren were wounded and three others are still missing.
As the Times of London reports, Western officials in Afghanistan had heard substantial "chatter" about a Taliban truck bomb in the capital ahead of next month's presidential elections. Some speculated that the overturned truck was on its way to Kabul and was intended to target a government or UN location. Another bombing in the south of Afghanistan killed two NATO soldiers.
