The Naked Truth on Nude Farming

The motto of Rising Sun Farm in Wisconsin is “Unconventional Farming”—the naked pleasures of which Judd Spicer experiences firsthand and recounts for the Heavy Table. Spicer describes the moment of disrobing as “scary, liberating, strange, natural, different, fun,” but once he’s free and clear the real point hits him. “At Rising Sun, it’s not about the parsing of clothes that matters, it’s the stripping of judgment.”

Rising Sun’s owner has a couple different takes on the naturalism of his farm, ranging from the philosophical—“Naked in nature, we transcend from observer to participant”—to the practical. “Even when hot, humid weather hits,” he says, “it can be quite joyful working nude when it would be miserable working clothed.” To each his own, it seems.
