Vick Can’t Play in Canada, Either

CFL rule blocks signing other leagues' suspended players

If Michael Vick is suspended from the NFL as expected, he shouldn’t expect to find asylum in Canada. The CFL recently amended its rules to forbid signing a player under suspension in another league, the Toronto Star reports—a reaction to the Ricky Williams flap, not Vick's case. The Falcons QB will plead guilty to federal dogfighting charges next week.

Prison time and NFL penalties are projected to keep Vick off the gridiron south of the border until at least 2010. The CFL’s commissioner wouldn’t comment yesterday, but a spokesman did point to the new rule, instituted last spring after Toronto's controversial signing of Williams, who’d been suspended by the NFL for drug use.
