An Airbus A320 experienced engine trouble shortly after takeoff today from the Canary Islands and was forced to turn around and make an emergency landing. The Spanish Iberworld airliner was headed from Gran Canaria to Oslo, Norway, said Spanish national airport authority AENA. No one was hurt and the plane was in the air about 10 minutes.
An AENA spokeswoman denied reports that one of the plane's engines had caught fire, saying only it had undisclosed trouble. News outlets said 180 people were on board the plane; the company planned to put passengers on a different one bound for Oslo at midday. (More Airbus A320 stories.)
