Philadelphia vigilantes attacked a man they suspect raped an 11-year-old girl on Monday, leaving him in critical condition, the Inquirer reports. Police thanked the mob for helping nab Jose Carrasquillo, 26, considered a person of interest because physical evidence links him to the rape site. "I'm glad," the victim's mother said of the beating. "He deserves worse."

Neighbors cheered as a dozen people punched, kicked, and beat Carrasquillo with sticks. "Justice community style. It's a beautiful thing," says one resident. "The people took it to heart. It says a lot about the community," said the police commissioner, who, of course, added that he didn't condone the violence. Carrasquillo has a history of crime, including an attempted rape 7 years ago.
